Day 04: Your favorite show of all time.
I actually had to think between the two shows. There are two shows that I truely love and helped shape my teenage and college years. The first being Xena: Warrior Princess, and the second being the winner of this category (warning: there be spoilers ahead):
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
This will also not come as a shock to anyone who knows me. Let me take a paragraph or eight to explain my love for this show and how it shaped my life.
Back in the spring of 1997, I was 17 and a junior in high school. I remember watching the new network, the WB, and seeing these awesome commercials for a new show. I remember laughing when I saw the name of the show and remembering the TERRIBLE movie by the same name from about 4 years previously. So, that night, on Monday, March 10th, I traipsed down to the basement and turned on the WB. This is the first thing I saw:
I went to school the next day and my core group of friends had watched it, and loved it. There were three of us who every Monday would three-way call each other to watch the show together (oh, the days before skype and AIM!).
Granted, the first season was pretty cheese-tastic, but I still loved it. I was close enough in age to Buffy and her friends to appreciate what they went through. When I was in college I made sure I didn't have any Tuesday night classes so I could watch the show. I was thrilled when Willow started dating a woman. Of course, my friends STILL tease me because it was my straight friends who pointed out the chemistry between Willow and Tara, and I shrugged it off and told them I was nuts.
Along with Xena, it was one of the few shows that showed powerful, strong women. Even the catty women (coughCordeliacough) had a strength about them I found facinating. Thier lives were not perfect- they were complicated, and messy, and had both ups and downs. Every week I could count on losing myself even just for an hour- and sometimes it was much needed. The characters grew and changed- even Cordelia. When the show ended, I was sad, but I loved how it was done. The finale is one of the reasons I chose Buffy over Xena as my favorite show (don't get me started on the Xena finale).
At least once a year I have a Buffy marathon where I watch all 7 seasons in a row. I then will watch the commentary and the extras. Yep, that's how much of a geek I am.
Geek On.

You know when I really decided that Buffy was something special was when Cordy said this: "Hey! You think I'm never lonely because I'm so cute and popular? I can be surrounded by people and be completely alone. It's not like any of them really know me. I don't even know if they like me half the time. People just want to be in a popular zone. Sometimes when I talk, everyone's so busy agreeing with me, they don't hear a word I say."
Buffy: "Well, if you feel so alone, then why do you work so hard at being popular?"
Cordelia: "Well, it beats being alone all by yourself."
That's when I fell in complete love.
I am pretty sure I fell in love with Cordy told Willow "I see you found the softer side of Sears." That made me laugh SO HARD. Well, that and the fact that Buffy then went and sat with Willow at lunch.

I request an edit of your blog. I believe you misspelled something.
You spelled "rock star" weird. Not sure how you got a g, k and two es in there, but ... I think you need an editor. ;)
Well, Brenda can attest that my spelling IS atrocious!
Buffy reminds me of my childhood. I locked myself in the second tv room downstairs and watched reruns of Buffy on cable ALLLLLLLLLLLL day long. Literally.
